Author Quotes

Author Quotes

Can you tell yet that I just LOVE quotes?  Here are a few more from my collection, but these are all written by authors.  The designs I did myself, with a little help from PixlrPicMonkey, and BeFunky.

I created these to share with teachers, so if you see one you love, feel free to USE IT!  I would be honored to have my work on your desktop or wall!

Word Wall Words Part V: V-Z

Teaching the Alphabet, Letter V-Z

This is the final installment of Word Wall Words for Preschool Students.  I wrote this because, when I was researching, I could never quite find a definitive list of words my kids would know, and I don't want another teacher to have that struggle.  And, even though I worked hard to put this list together, feel free to add to it in the comments, or post links to other sites that could help others with teaching the alphabet.

Don't forget to check out Letters A-E, F-J, K-P, and Q-U.

Word Wall Words Part III: K-P

Teaching the Alphabet, Letters K-P

I hope you've been enjoying my series on word wall words for preschoolers.  Whether you are making your own worksheets, creating a game, or actually doing a word wall, I think it helps to have a little inspiration from another teacher.  I used multiple resources, including the series My First Steps to Reading by Jane Belk Monicure.  We had the entire series of books in the classroom when I started, and every Monday I introduce the letter of the week with one of the volumes.

We also do a letter sort with cards I've made with the words and pictures on one side, and the letters on the other.  I set out a variety of letters and let my kiddos find the letter of the week.  When we have found most or all of them, I flip the cards over and play again, this time finding the picture and word that begins with our letter.

Word Wall Words Part II: F-J

Teaching the Alphabet, Letters F-J

I hope you caught the first installment of the series this week.  I found it was actually super hard to come up with lots and lots and LOTS of words that my kids knew and could be used on a word wall or for a word game.  While most of mine cannot read, they can identify pictures, so I picked words for this post that most of the 3+ could name by sight.

You won't find many verbs or abstract ideas or proper nouns.  A heart is a shape, not a symbol for love.  I even shied away from diagraphs, so that they could really relate a picture of a letter to the beginning sound of a known concept (Ex. S makes a sound like "snake," not like "shoe."  For now, anyway.)

fairy

Word Wall Words Part I: A-E

Word Wall Words for Pre-K, Letters A-E

This is my gift to you.  Here is a series with over 400 preschool appropriate word wall words starting with each letter of the alphabet.  Word wall words can be hand written on index cards or cut down sentence strips, or typed on some fabulous template you bought online, but the important thing is that your kids see words and recognize that they have meaning!

These words were chosen not because they are easy to spell, or the first words the kids will write, but because my pre-schoolers can identify most pictures of the words by sight.

If you don't have a word wall, make flashcards with some of these words and their corresponding pictures on one side. If you aren't the world's greatest artist, I recommend looking for clip art, and sizing it to about 1.5" x 1.5."  On the other side of the card, write the letter in bold print, upper- and lowercase, so you can play two ways!

This post is letters A-E.
